Washington, the National Guard units posted in DC, have been authorized to carry firefighters as part of the trump administration’s attempt to reduce the violent crime, the DC National Guard has announced – and some soldiers have already been seen armed on patrolling.
The guard said that on Saturday, it was formally authorized to carry out his service-Jari M17 pistol to support the Joint Task Force-DC.
Brigadier. Guard’s Interim Commander General Leyland D. Blancard said the decision came under the direction of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and in coordination with local and federal law enforcement. The guard stressed that weapons are for personal protection and the soldiers work under strict rules for the use of force, including D-escation technology.
“This decision is not taken somewhat lightly,” said Blancard. “We are in coordination with our law enforcement partners and are all appropriate review procedures.”

National Guard Troops, who took rifles, patrolled a nightlife district in Washington, DC on August 23, 2025 as part of the crime of the Trump administration.
Associated Press, citing an official of a Defense Department, who was not authorized to speak publicly, stated that some guards would be armed with handguns and other rifles. An AP photographer also saw the guardman of South Carolina along with Holstered Handgan outside the union station on Sunday.
Under the Posse Comitatatus Act of 1878, the use of federal armed forces for civil law enforcement is generally prohibited. But the National Guard title 32 will work under Section 502F Authority, which does not apply to Pose Committees.
Commander of Joint Task Force-DC Colonel Larry Done said, “DC National Guard for the use of force of our task force incorporates de-escation technology within the rules.” “All these measures ensure that they are fully prepared for supporting law enforcement and protecting the residents of Washington, DC”

Trump Washington joins police and military forces in roads
President Donald Trump activated the National Guard at Washington, DC, earlier this month as part of an attempt to curb violent crime in the country’s capital. According to a Joint Task Force spokesperson, about 2,300 guard soldiers and airmen from Washington, DC and six states have been mobilized.
Under the Direct President Authority, the members of the guard have been posted at all eight wards at monuments, posts and traffic stops, with a mission to prevent crime and maintain a visual security appearance. They are patrolling attendance across the city along with metro stations, union stations, national malls and US Park Police.
A Defense Department official said on Fox News Digital Monday that members of Joint Task Force-DC will soon deploy with their service-zari weapons, which are in line with their training and their missions to help reduce crime rates in the country’s capital.
The official said the interim commander of the guard could accommodate how those forces are used in coordination with DC police and federal law enforcement partners.
Avoiding the success of the operation – at least 465 arrests have been made – Trump has indicated that it intends to wider the DC mission in other cities. “We are going to make it safe, and we are going to other places again,” he told federal agents and guard soldiers on Thursday at a DC Patrol Center.
