India’s Chief Justice Bra Gawai on Sunday stressed that rights had no value without awareness, and underlined the need for reconstruction of Kashmir of the past, where all communities lived together in peace. Speaking at the North Zone Regional Conference of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in Srinagar, CJI Gavai urged the legal fraternity to work towards ensuring justice for every citizen, especially in the farthest corners of the country.“Judges and lawyers must simultaneously ensure justice for the last citizen of the country,” he said. “Nalasa works in this direction, and we try to take Nalsa work in remote areas of the country – it should be in Ladakh, Northeast or Rajasthan. As long as people do not have knowledge of their rights, there is no use of rights ”, he said. What appeared in the context of decades of unrest in Kashmir said “there were vasts,” but called for efforts to remove them. He said, “This dialogue between judges and lawyers will give a new perspective. I am sure the program will help in the reconstruction of traditional Kashmir, where all communities -Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs are used to live together,” he said, “he said,” from the news agency PTI.CJI Gawai also reminded the promises of the Constitution of justice, political, social and economic and said that judges and lawyers should commit themselves to maintain these principles in their true spirit. He credited BR Ambedkar to establish political justice through the principle of “one person, one vote”, but also accepted the frequent social parts that are difficult to overcome. While reflecting his visits to the region, he said, “I think I have come to my hometown. I am grateful for all the love and affection shifted to me. The tradition of Sufism here promotes secularism as inherent in the Constitution.”Responding to the concerns raised by the representatives of the bar in Ladakh, Jammu, and Kashmir, CJI Gavai assured them that although they could not have a direct right to work, they would pass a reaction to the collegium and other relevant bodies. The legal summit was hosted at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) in Srinagar and it is the second major Nalsa program in the region after the meeting of last year’s All India Legal Services. A legal awareness camp for tribal communities is also planned as part of the outreach.
