Elon Musk’s electric car and energy company Tesla has applied for a license for power supply to British homes.
If the Energy is approved by the Watchdog offgame, it will allow Tesla to take the big firms that dominate the UK Energy Market to provide electricity to homes and businesses in England, Scotland and Wales as next year.
Tesla, known as one of the largest manufacturers of the world’s electric vehicles (EV), also has a solar energy and battery storage business.
Tesla did not immediately respond to the BBC request for comments.
OFGEM may take up to nine months to process applications for energy supply license.
Tesla Electric already operates an electric supplier in Texas that allows EVS owners to charge their cars cheaply and pays them to feed surplus power in the grid.
The application signed by Andrew Payne, who runs Tesla’s European energy operation, was filed later last month.
Tesla has sold more than one lakh EVs and tens of thousand home storage batteries in the UK, which can help it reach a large customer base for the power supply business.
The OfGEM license application arrives as Tesla’s EV sales have fallen in Europe in recent months.
In July, Teslas’ UK car registration declined by about 60% and more than 55% in Germany, showing from industry data.
This reduced the decline in sales of the firm to 45% in 10 major European markets a month.
Tesla has faced a tough competition from rival EV manufacturers, especially China’s BRD.
Musk has also been criticized for his relationship with US President Donald Trump, although the two are now very public.
Meanwhile, his participation in right -wing politics in the UK, Germany and Italy has drawn Ire from some of Tesla’s customers.
