A Murali councilor has been jailed for 27 months to sexually abuse a 15 -year -old girl in a six -month period.
David Graham, 43, misused the girl and sexually abused the girl at various places in Murali and Edinburgh regions in 2023.
He has been added to the Sex Offender Register for 10 years after a test in the Kirkaldi Sheriff Court.
The FIF Council confirmed that he was disqualified from serving as a councilor, while the Scottish Labor Party had expelled Graham when he was convicted.
He was suspended by the party after being accused by the police two years ago.
Graham was first selected to the FIF Council in 2012, which represents the Bakhavan, Methil, Methilhil and Vemis villages wards.
He was re -elected in 2022 and served as the first council’s health spokesperson and NHS Murali sat on the board.
A by -election will be held in his former ward in the next few months.
A member of the public had expressed concern over Graham’s behavior towards the teenage girl.
The Crown Office and Procuretor Fiscal Service (COPFS) said they targeted their victims at various places including their offices, cars and houses.
The court heard that he continued to deny any wrongdoing.
During the sentence, Sheriff Robert More told Graham that he was guilty of a “escalating and brazen” course of sexual offense.
Murali Council leader David Ross said: “The case has shocked all of us and I am glad that it means that David Graham will now be disqualified from serving as a councilor in the Murali Parishad.
“I want to pay tribute to the bravery of the young man involved in this case in coming forward and hope that today’s punishment leads some way towards his medical process.
“David Graham should resign as a councilor, as soon as he was convicted, if not before, and his disqualification would be welcomed to the council.”
Warned on public meetings
Procurent Fiscal Helen Nisbet for Tidside, Central and Murali said: “David Graham saw an opportunity to systematically abuse and sexually abuse a weak young girl, which had the right to stay safe in his company.
