With the rise of social media use in children, many people, especially parents, are concerned about their online safety.
Anxiety is not unfair, because it is no secret that thousands (perhaps even millions of) pokes danked on these platforms. Fortunately, Meta has released several new features to protect teenagers on its two biggest platforms: Facebook and Instagram.
The purpose of the Meta initiative is to create a safe online environment in two ways. The first method targets accounts that display hunter behavior, and the second makes it easier for the teen to present and report suspicious activity.

Teens will now be safe on meta platforms
The latest updates of Meta have improved direct messages on their platforms. In particular, the teenager will now find safety tips to check who is giving them the message. For example, a huge red flag occurs when a child is contacted on social media recently created (a strategy, restriction, and scams used to hide identity). To help the teenager in this spot immediately, Meta will show them the date that the account was made.
In addition, the stage will make it easier for adolescents to block and report accounts. They will all be able to cut the communication and inform the meta of inappropriate behavior with one click. This will give the power to protect themselves and others quickly if they do not feel safe.
In addition, the meta is testing the new AI-operated equipment to find out that users can incorrectly present their age. If the system flags an account as the possibility of being related to a teenager, it will automatically move the user to a teenage account to implement proper safety restrictions. This active use of AI helps to ensure that minors get protection, even if they try to bypass the age limit.
Meta has also made back-to-back algorithm changes to reduce the visibility of the material that can attract predators. For example, Instagram will stop recommending adults to recommend child-centered, adults who have shown suspicious behavior. This step is designed to limit exploitative discovery before any direct interaction.

Meta has removed thousands of hunter accounts
In a transparent step, Meta revealed that it had removed more than 600,000 accounts for hunter behavior on Instagram and Facebook. This is a magnificent high number and just goes to show how much the children were at risk.

what’s more? Meta sexually abused about 135,000 children of them with red hands. He either abandoned the comment or requested images that sexually abuse them on other adult-interested accounts. Removing these accounts suggests that Meta is ready to take an active stand against these dangers before a person falls prey.

What does it mean to you
If you are a parent or guardian, you can breathe a little of relief that the meta is making great progress to make your baby more digital literate. If they understand how scammers work, they become more flexible and are masters of their online security.

However, it is still your responsibility to be informed about what your teen online is. Use these updates as an opportunity to openly talk about online security with your young people, especially when it comes to reporting improper material.

Kurt’s major takeaways
Protecting adolescents online is a high priority, and it is very good that Meta is showing increasing commitment to this. Preventing children’s exploitation and misuse is something about which all platforms should be active. These are the initial steps to create updates and only one place to remove accounts where children feel safe. It is important to accept that these platforms will always be at risk, but teenagers are extremely welcome to give equipment to fight back.
