Mercedes is his manager as well as his employer who complicates questions on the talks with the team’s principal Toto Wolf.
“Whenever we come on an agreement, we will complete it but it will have to work for both of us,” Russell said.
“Some we need to think. What do they want and what I want?
“We have been in a unique position for the last few months, I do not have great power in this agreement. And perhaps the interests were not aligned for the last six months.
“But my job to reduce and reduce that risk
“I still rely on Toto and the team will continue to support me, but the km and the last six months have not been the most confident, and it is conflicting.”
Russell said that he never had any real doubt about his future as he was performing at a higher level, but he wants to take the next three -week summer brakes to think more carefully about his situation.
Russell said: “Conversation [about a new contract] Have started, but we are now going to summer breaks.
“Toto and I have talked a lot this week, but we have not talked about the contract once, as we are trying to resolve the performance of both the car and bring the team to the right place. And this is real.
“And I personally want to go to summer breaks and enjoy only two weeks in the year. I don’t want to think about contracts. And in fact I don’t have a major time pressure on my side, nor from Mercedes.”
