Life in FC Barcelona is never sluggish – or ‘Can Barca’ club and its surrounding environment is known in Spain.
Even the off-season Sunday of the sleep can burst into the latest melodramatic controversy, a case with rumors, counter-returns and sudden U-turn.
This summer is no different, seen by a series of greens in the club with Rashford’s first fortnight.
Club captain Mark-Andreen focused on Ter Steigen, the largest of them, for some time, although it would also delay at the start of Rashford’s league.
Ter Stegon is a Barca legend with more than 400 appearances and 17 trophy under their belts. But he has recently retained several injuries, playing only nine games in the previous season, and by signing the summer of Zone Garcia from Aspenol, it has been strongly suggested that the club is ready to separate its captain.
However, attempts were made to sell it when Keeper surgered a back problem – and also had widespread effects.
Barca is currently barred from registering his new signatures by La Liga, including Rashford and Garcia, as his distressed finance does not meet the strict guidelines of La Leiga.
Selling Ter Stegan would have made sufficient pay space free to do so, but their surgery made summer sales impossible. So Barka prepared another plan: register your captain by January.
However, Ter Stegan refused to sign the required paperwork, arguing that his injury should only be sidelined by November.
Barca reacted angrily, opened disciplinary proceedings against the keeper and snatched it away from the captaincy.
Ter Stegen then trusted, reinstated the captaincy and would spend the next few months as an unregistered player in rehabilitation – poor or poor or preventing his replacement Garcia from getting hurt – most likely that is being sold in January.
It must open the door to Rashford and other new signals to be registered (but nothing should be taken until the paperwork is completed), which means that it will be available against Mallorca for next Saturday’s league opener.
That game will be played away from home … and has another summer drama.
