New Delhi: Following a proposal introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the President’s rule in Manipur has been extended for a period of six months effective from August 13, 2025. In a statement, the Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Bulletin read: “Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs, and the Minister of Cooperations have given a notice of the following resolution, which has been accepted:- ‘It was issued jointly along the date of February 13, 2025, which is in relation to the recession. 2025’.,The presidency was implemented in Manipur on 13 February, shortly thereafter, N Biran Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister after ethnic violence. According to Article 356 (3) of the Constitution, the President’s rule, which is implemented through the office of the Governor, usually lasts for six months and can be extended every six months with the approval of Parliament for three years.The ethnic conflict between the cookie-zo and Metei communities, which started from May 3, 2023, resulted in 250 fatal and over 60,000 persons were forced to leave their homes.National Highway 2 and 37, essential routes connecting Nagaland and Assam to Landlocked Imphal Valley respectively, through cookie-zo populated areas. Since May 2023, the residents of the valley have been unable to use these highways. Additionally, more than 6,000 police weapons were stolen in the state.
