A tribute has been paid to a former councilor, which was killed on a road which he campaigned to make safe.
81 -year -old John Michael Duggan died in the hospital after a collision between his car and a skip lorry, on a part of A19 on Friday morning as he was exposed as dangerous.
Councilor Stephanie Docket described Sri Duggan as a “luxurious” person, between Cellbi and York, “very passionate” about the Rikkal village.
He said: “He was too much Mr. Ricky, he could do anything that he could do for that village.
“John was one of the people you had once met him, you didn’t forget him. When he went into a room, everyone knew that he was there.”
“He was a brilliant man and loyal friend.”
Mr. Duggan was joining A19 north in recocols from York Road Junction, when his Nissan Juke collided with a truck.
According to the North Yorkshire police, a 42 -year -old man from the driver, York was arrested at the scene and was helping the authorities with interrogation.
As a parish councilor for recocols, Mr. Duggan filed a petition for a change in the layout of the A19 through the village, as far as he had returned by 2007 and to build a roundabout.
He told the York Press newspaper in August that year that a junction on the road was a site of several accidents and two deadly people.
He said: “The stretch of A19 that drives the previous rickka, is one of the fastest sections of the road, and the speed of traffic using this section is completely unacceptable to the local people who are trying to enter and exit the village.”
Ms. Docket said, despite her death, a Mr. Duggan had expressed concern in the past at the next junction, the road was a matter of concern.
“That road is quite busy and every year traffic seems manifold,” he said.
“There was money for roundabouts at one point and it was never made and now the cost is in millions to do just one project.
“I don’t think honestly that this is happening anytime.”
Selby MP Kir Matheher said that the death of Mr. Duggan highlighted the need for road safety reforms.
He said: “John was a famous and very loving local person, a father, uncle and a grandfather.
“He was also known for his time as a union convenor, a Cellbi district and North Yorkshire County Councilor and, perhaps most poignant, as a pracharak for better road safety in Rikkal.
“It clearly clarifies the need for road safety reforms at A19 junctions in tragedy requests.”
He said: “We leave it in his memory to see the action, and people in recall can be sure about my full and unwavering support.”
Mr. Duggan was selected in 2019 with the Labor Party in the reconcall ward of the Cellby Council.
In 2022, he stood for blankets and karlton in the local election of the North Yorkshire Council, but lost to Orthodox Councilor Mike Jordan.
