A yellow box junction that was seen as the largest in the UK and Ireland has been removed from a county Londonadery town.
40 meter long yellow marks in Magera were painted in JuneThen Size reduction in JulyAnd now it has completely disappeared.
However, a yellow box is expected to return to autumn, when the work of working in the city is completed.
Mid Ulster Councilor Dennis Johnson said she wants a meeting with the department for the infrastructure, which she has described as a “waste” of public funds.
Questions have been asked about the cost of work, and the revived work was planned in August, so why the lines were painted in June.
SDLP Councilor Dennis Johnson Told BBC Radio Foil: “It is just not understanding and it is not a good use of public money”.
“I get the importance of a yellow box – a yellow box will be necessary there – but … if you know that you are going to resume the road after two or three months, why would you do this?”
He said that many people were “unmatched and confused” in Maghera.
The Infrastructure Department (DFI), who is in charge of roads in Northern Ireland, said the cost cannot be released because they were “commercially sensitive”.
A DFI spokesman said that the changes that have taken place, stating: “The department applied the yellow box marks at this place and assisted the ease of translink bus movements from the main bus stop on St. Lurch Road.
“After the initial installation, the limit of markings was reviewed and later reduced to length for improvement in traffic flows. The yellow box marking would be restored when the revival is completed on the hall street.”
With his population of less than 5,000 people, Maghera was described as “small town with Big Yellow box” after the first appearance of marking in June.
The extra-big box is spread with a busy junction that is often used by buses, lorry and cars.
After complaints, the box was scaled back, but it took some time because specific yellow marks are not easily removed.
The public realm in the city has been improving for the last one year.
Along with setting up new street furniture and widening pavements, the project tried to deal with traffic flow issues.
