Manager Dave Martinez and General Manager Mike Rizo were fired in the tricks by Washington National on Sunday that were surprising for their time, even though the club was more than half through the sixth defeat season since winning the 2019 world series.
The team announced a change a few hours after losing 6-4 at Washington’s house, which completed a sweep by Boston Red Sox. Citizens are 37–53 and NL is the last in the east; The only National League Club is Colorado Rockies with a worse record.
But amateur draft is just one week away, and Washington has the number 1 overall pick.
Senior VP and Assistant GM Mike Debartolo is taking over for Rizo on an interim basis. A replacement for martinez was not immediately nominated.
Washington could use options to expand the contracts of both Martinez and Rizo beyond this season.
National owner Mark Learner said in a statement issued by the team, “When we appreciate his previous successes, there is no on-field demonstration, where we or our fans expect it.” “This is an important time for our club, and we believe that a fresh approach and new energy is the best course of action for our team to move forward.”
Rizzo’s time is going on, which is over after a decade and a half. One of the first fare of the Learner family when it assumed control of the organization, Rizo was GM since 2009 and added the title of the chairman of baseball operations in 2013.
“He played an important role in the change of our farm system and building a roster, which reached an unprecedented level of organizational success,” the Learner said. “Mike helped us to create who we are as an organization, and we are very grateful to them for their hard work and dedication.”
Martinez is the fourth manager since the onset of this season – after Derek Shelton of Pittsburgh, Bud Black in Colorado and Brandon Hyde of Baltimore. Martinez’s full record with National was 500-622. Last month, he emphasized the question of a reporter about how to divide the defect for poor performance between players and their employees.
“It’s never on coaching,” Martinez then said. “Never on coaching. Coaches work their (butts) every day. We are not going to the finger point here and say that it is a coach. It is never on the coaches. They work hard. They work hard. The message is clear. So, sometimes, sometimes, they have to go out of there and have to play. It is always about players.”
Martinez was never a manager at any level when Rizo hired him to replace Dusty Baker before the 2018 season. The first season of National Martinez moved from 82–80 and started the following year from 19-31, which was replaced to make some calls.
But Rizo got stuck with Martinez, and that decision made a massive payment: due to the introduction of Pickers Stephen Strasberg, who has a world series MVP Honors, and Max Shezer, Ruki Outfielder Juan Soto, Young Shortstop Train Turner and a string of vetters – Haui Kandrik, Riyi Ziman and Anyoni Randon Included
None of the World Series Rosters is still playing for the franchise.
Washington made the epidemic-less in the 2020 season, and then Rizo began to separate the roster, making a range of trades to Sherzar, Soto, Turner and other places.
The reconstruction continues, without a lot of concrete progress in standing to show it, although there are some building blocks in the team, which promise, including Starter McAcanzi Gore and outfielder James Wood-two names include NL All-Stars on Sunday with NL All-Stars, which was an all-star with a year ago.
“The fans of the National have a lot to be optimistic, and we see these changes as a difficult, but an essential step in a positive direction,” the Learner said. “As my late father has controlled the team about 20 years ago, our family is committed to winning.”
Washington finished fourth or fifth every year from 2020 to 2024, never put a high win percentage together compared to .438 (71–91) in each of the last two sessions.
“I have always appreciated and praised Davi’s passion for the game of baseball and love for my players for my players,” the Learner said. “Devi’s ability to join our employees, our players, our fans and our community separated them. While this chapter has ended, we know what it does not close to the book what a long and successful career should be in baseball.”
