Karnataka Waqf and Minority Affairs Minister Buzz Zameer Ahmed Khan said on Wednesday that a program has been started to train teachers working in Madras to enable them to teach students Kannada.
He emphasized the need for everyone in the state to know Kannada and said that the Maulvis working in mosques will also be trained in the language.
“We have started a program. Kannada is important in our state, children should know Kannada, with this intention, the Department of Minority Affairs has started a program, as 200 teachers working in Madras have been selected to train in Kannada in three months. If they (teachers) learn Kannada, they can teach students.”
He said, “We have a Kannada state and everyone should know Kannada … In the coming days, we will have a program to teach Guru (Maulvis) to Kannada in all mosques.”
