Officials said on Sunday that at least four people were killed and six were injured after heavy rains in Ghati village in Katua district of Jammu and Kashmir. It comes a few days later, due to a similar incident, at least 60 lives were claimed due to cloudburst in Kishtwar.
In the early hours of Sunday, a family was buried under the rubble after hitting a place called Juthana Jod near Ghata near Ghat. It was around the same time when the suspected Claudbsts saw the village by reaching a remote village in Rajbagh area of the district, and two other places nearby.
“The incidents took place between 3.30 and 4 pm,” Ajay Singh, Inspector of the police station of Rajbagh area, said, “advance parties have reached the region.”
District police chief Shobit Saxena confirmed the death and said, “There was no cloudburst, but flash was flood. We have also informed the army; they are on a standby.”
A joint team of police and state disaster response forces (SDRF) has ambushed to join the local people in rescue efforts. Officials told PTI that the bodies of four persons were recovered, while six were rescued in an injured condition.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a cloudburst is a sudden decline of more than 100 mm of rain in just one hour. Technically, it was not clearly clear whether the incident could be called cloudburst.
Waterfall at police station
Officials told HT that heavy rains received heavy rains due to heavy rains in Sahar Khad and Ujdis.
Railway tracks were damaged and traffic on main roads including national highways in the area was also affected. The police station in Kathua also saw the major waterfall.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also posted details on X, and wrote: “Civil administration, military and paramilitary action. The situation is being monitored continuously.”
The news agency reported that Landslides also said to Bagard and Changda villages, which were under the jurisdiction of Kathua police station and Dilwan-Hutli at Lakhanpur police station, but there was no major reports of loss, the news agency said.
Earlier, at least 60 people, most of them, were killed in flash floods on Machot Mata Yatra in Chasoti village in Kishtar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday afternoon.
