Former Labor Party leader and independent MP Jeremy Corbin has confirmed that he is starting a new political party.
Corbin has issued a joint statement with Zara Sultana, who recently left labor to become an independent, saying: “This is the time for a new type of political party – one that is for you”.
The pair is encouraging people to sign up to join “a real, democratic option contained in the top and bottom communities above the country”.
Labeling the current political system as “rigging”, they are inviting supporters to the inaugural conference “to be part of the founding process”.

Jeremy Corbin and Zarah Sultana come from very different political generations – Corbin was an MP for almost half a century, Sultana for only six years.
But they share a belief that there is an energy on the left of British politics on which they can capitalize.
In his statement, he says that the inauguration conference will determine the policies of the party.
