A Labor MP is investigating for allegedly violating the expenditure guidelines of Parliament.
“Miscellaneous costs and financial assistance” is being investigated by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority Authority (IPSA) of Kate Osborne, Jaro and Gateshead East MP, along with its expenses for traveling costs on travel and subsistence costs.
Osborne, who is disabled, said the investigation focused on the use of taxis after an operation for its spine in February.
He said that with increased support after the medical procedure, it was recommended to use a taxi to come or carry goods by the Health Service of Parliament in 2023.
Osborne said: “While this operation was a success, it has not helped my disability, it has exposed other issues and I am afraid that I still have a lot of pain that the advisor has said that will be for the rest of my life.”
He is the second Labor MP to be investigated by IPSA this year after investigation by Tahir Ali in May.
Ali, MP of Birmingham Hall Green and Mosle, faces an investigation to spend on “office cost, travel and housing”.
‘Acting within rules’
Osborne, who has been an MP for six years, said that he met the IPSA compliance officer last week, so that he could discuss the use of taxis.
She also said that she would “fully complose” with investigation and was “convinced” that she would “act within the rules and follow the advice”.
“I want my components to know that my priority is to always fight for you, and will try your best to represent you in Parliament and in the constituency.”
In its announcement of investigation, IPSA said: “No more information will be published until the investigation is over.”
