Jacob Bethel is ready to become Captain England’s youngest person in international cricket, when 21 -year -old leads an Understanding T20 side on a visit to Ireland in September.
Regular white ball captain Harry Brook and other England all-format players rested, the leadership for three T20s in Dublin has been handed over to all-rounder Bethel, who has given limited time for limited time in this summer.
Monty Boden was 23 and 144 days old when he led England in a test against South Africa in 1889, and till date he remains the youngest person to captain England at an international level.
“It was a big news to clearly hear,” Bethel told the BBC Sport.
“Bhavna was proud of the first time. It is not really yet drowning. It’s just a few hours.
“I look forward to this and lead the team against Ireland would be a great honor.”
Prior to the tour of Ireland, one full-power will play three one-day international and three T20s against England South Africa.
Hampshire bowler Sunny Baker has been given the first call-up for the ODI series against South Africa and the T20 trip to Ireland.
Baker has impressed with bowling at her lively pace in a hundred, taking four wickets in four matches for Manchester Original.
Fast bowler Mark Wood has been released from all squads, which has not been played since February after knee surgery.
He was returning to the fifth test against India before a stroke earlier this month and his constant absence is a concern given his importance to England’s hopes in ash in this winter.
England say they are giving priority to Wood’s winter program, although their recovery is taking longer than expected. Bowler Gas Atkinson has also been released.
Bridan Cars, who left the hundred to manage their charge, have been included in the options of attacks for South Africa ODI matches with Jofra Archer, Baker, Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood.
Leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who has also influenced domesticly in this summer, has been recalled to the squads that will be led by batsman Brooke.
