Two years ago, Hamas was poured to the finishing touch for a plan to attack Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believed that there was a problem of managing Palestinians. The real danger, he insisted, Iran was.
Netanyahu’s rhetoric was opposing Hamas, but he also allowed Qatar to pay funnel money in Gaza. This gave them place for their real priorities in foreign policy – facing Iran and finding a way to normalize relationships with Saudi Arabia.
In Washington, the then President Joe Biden and his administration believed that they were close to a deal between Saudi and Israelis.
It was a series of all illusions.
Netanyahu refused to set up an inquiry to see the mistakes made with his army and security heads, which gave Hamas an opportunity to attack 7 October 2023 with such a fatal impact.
The long -standing century conflict between Jews and Arabs to control the land between Jordan and the Mediterranean River was the unresolved, celebration, and explosion in a battle as its other sites in 1948 and 1967 as their other sites.
The Middle East has been replaced from 7 October, and about two years in war, the struggle in Gaza is at another divine point.
This has been a difficult war for journalists to report.
He was surprised on 7 October when Hamas was attacked, and since then Israel has banned Gaza from independently reporting international journalists. Palestinian journalists have done brave work inside the strip, and around 200 have been killed while doing their jobs.
But the major facts are clear. Hamas made a series of war crimes in the attacks launched on 7 October, killing 1,200 people, mainly Israel’s citizens. Hamas took 251 hostages, of which perhaps 20 who are still being held inside Gaza are believed to be alive.
And there is a clear evidence that Israel has been a series of war crimes since then.
Israel’s list includes the starvation of Gaza’s citizens, failure to protect them during military campaigns, killing thousands of innocent people, and destruction of the entire cities was destroyed in a way that is not in front of military risk.
Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister are the subject of arrest warrant for war crimes issued by the International Criminal Court. They emphasize their innocence.
Israel has also condemned a legal process at the International Court of Justice alleging that it is massacre against the Palestinians. Israel denied the allegations, and claimed that they are “blood complaints”.
Israel is running out of friends. Following the Hamas attacks of 7 October, colleagues who ralled from all around have lost patience with Israel’s conduct in Gaza.
Even Israel’s most important ally, Donald Trump, has been reported to lose patience with Netanyahu, when the Israeli leader ordered Damascus to bomb Damascus – ordered to attack the new Syrian rule, which Trump recognized and encouraged.
Other Western partners of Israel ran out of patience months ago.
Another joint statement, condemning Israel’s actions, was signed by most people in UK Foreign Ministers, European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan on 21 July. He used strong words to describe the citizen victim in Gaza, and Failing and fatal support distribution system operated by Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) That Israel tried to replace the UN and reliable methods and major global relief groups used by the United Nations.
“Citizens in Gaza have reached a new depth,” The statement said,
“Israeli government’s aid distribution model is dangerous, deprives ghazans from fuel instability and human dignity. We condemn the drip feeding and inhuman killing of citizens, including children, demanding to meet their most basic needs of water and food. It is terrible that more than 800 Philistines have been killed.
“Israel’s refusal with the humanitarian aid required for the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel should follow its obligations under the International Human law.”
Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Lami followed a joint statement with his own, using a similar language at the House of Commons in Westminster.
This was not enough for Labor MPs, who want strong words to be supported by strong tasks. One told me that there was a “fury” to act more decisively in the government’s reluctance. His agenda is the recognition of the top one of the Palestinian state, which has already been done by most of the UN members. The UK and France have jointly discussed doing so, but yet begin to believe that the time is not correct.
The Parliament of Israel, known as a cassette, is only a few days away from its summer holiday, which will last until October. This means that Benjamin Netanyahu will stop the threat of distrust of distrust from extremist nationalists in his alliance, who oppose a ceasefire in Gaza. His reluctance to negotiate on Trus is the result of his threats to leave his government. If Netanyahu lost power in one election, his day of confirming his day for his October 7 mistakes – as well as his long -lasting corruption test will run towards him.
A ceasefire looks more possible, the chance to survive for the citizens of Gaza and for Israel’s hostages who have been prisoners of Hamas for so long.
It does not mean that the conflict will end. The war has taken it to a new depth. But if there is a ceasefire, there will be another chance to switch from murder to diplomacy.
I am participating in a debate tonight, on the BBC Today program, to find out what will happen to end this war.
