The American and National Leagues might soon be gone as we know them.Â
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that if expansion takes place in the near future, the league will likely look to realign teams based on geography.
“I think [expansion and realignment] Related, in my mind, “Manfred Little League Classic said on the broadcast of ESPN“I think if we expand, it gives us an opportunity to get geographically again. I think we can save a lot of wear and tears on our players in terms of travel. And I think our postsen format will be even more attractive to institutions like ESPN, as you will play outside and west.”
Manfred did not clearly expand whether the feeling would be seen, but they continued to emphasize the idea of the teams who are close to playing more games against each other.
Manfred said, “That at 10 o’clock where we receive Boston-Aahnim, there will be two West Coast teams.” “The slot at 10 o’clock that is a problem for us, sometimes becomes a real opportunity for our West Coast audience.
“I think the owners realize that Major League is a demand for baseball. We are in many great cities. We have the opportunity to do something good around that expansion process.”
MLB has recently used geographically-based reality ideas in memory. While MLB did not re-developed the divisions, it was done geographically based for the 60-game 2020 season for the season of Covid-19202020. The American and National League remained in place, but teams only faced only division rivals and interlag games against teams of the respective divisions (Al and NL East, Al and NL Central, Al and NL West) during the regular session.
Considering Manfred’s comments, there may be a guideline for the 2020 season if there should be expansion and revaluation. This may also mean that MLB is similarly divided into two of its leagues because NBA and NHL divide their two conferences.
For expansion, Manfred said in the past that he would prefer to see two teams in MLB before retiring as a commissioner in 2029. A handful of cities have been estimated as expansion candidates in recent years, but MLB believes that the strongest two candidates for expansion are Nashville and Salt Lake City. USA Today reported in July,
Extension MLB will bring the total number of 32 to 32, possibly requiring any type of divisional reality. If this happens, the league can either do what NFL does and four teams have eight divisions or follow the way to NHL and eight teams have four divisions.
The MLB has not expanded since adding Arizona Diamondback and Tampa Bay rays in 1998.
