Suspected Firefight with ambush at work In the Coeur D’E Alene, Idaho, before shooting them with a gun, there was contact and discussion with the respondents, two of them died and seriously injured one third, Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Noris said.
During a news conference on Monday, Noris recognized the suspect as a 20 -year -old Ves Roll. Sheriff said that Agne Noris, with a fire late on Sunday night, said on Monday that he shot the suspect himself.
As the Netleton Gulch fire continued to burn on Monday, Sheriff said it would take days to fully process the region, but investigators have located a roll vehicle in a embankment near the scene. He said that investigators have not yet been able to invent the vehicle, which “there are too many debris.” Those who have seen the vehicle say that it seems that Noris said that the rolls were living in the vehicle.
Noris said that the authorities have not received any writing that will indicate the purpose of the suspect.

According to Sheriff, the first suspect had five “very modest” encounters with law enforcement, but had no criminal history. The conversation with the authorities was to “do more with the tare, they were asked to leave and said [was] Cooperative, “Noris said. Other conversations involved the welfare check -ups reported by the property owners about the roll vehicle, Sheriff said.
Authorities are also looking at the Roley’s social media appearance for a possible purpose for any clue. Noris said that investigators have not found any connection with “Islamic Jihad”, disputing the rumors spreading on social media.
“We have information that he, at one time, he wanted to become a fire fighter,” Noris said, but he said investigators do not know what has happened.
Sheriff said
Noris said the firefighters were responding to a wildfire in a popular entertainment area at Canfield Mountain on Sunday afternoon, when Rollis started firing on him, said Noris said. Sheriff said investigators believe that the suspect used a flint starter to fire firefighters there.
“And we believe it was an ambush and it was intentional. These firefighters did not have a chance,” Noris said on Sunday.
Investigators initially admitted that the initial reports of the first respondents may have more than one sniper, but now say evidence indicates that it was an armed role with a gun.
“We know that a gun was used, of course, 100%, we know, of course,” Noris said on Monday, given that the rifle slugs were recovered from the scene. He said that small pieces were also found in the area, and the scene is still being processed.
The victims have not yet been publicly identified. Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Office is expected to hold a separate news conference at PT (7 pm) at 4 pm to share more details. The injured fire fighter was “fighting for his life” after surgery, but was in a stable position, Noris said.

The suspect’s grandfather described him as “a normal child”
According to a Facebook post by her mother, Roli moved from Arizona to Idaho, when she turned 18 in 2023, to work for her father’s tree-cutting company. In an update shared in October 2024, his mother wrote that he was “living very well in Idaho.”
In a phone interview with CBS News, his native grandfather, del Roli described Wes as “a normal child”. He said that his grandson had recently lost his cellphone and did not have a “high -power rifle”.
“He had a .22 long rifle and a gun,” he said. “This is not a high -power rifle from any stretch. We are just hoping that there are some strange circumstances and Wes were not really involved.”
Dale Rolli confirmed that Wes had worked for his father’s tree company, but recently working in a separate tree company in Koir D’Leen. He said that his grandson “wanted to become a fireman” and applied for a job with forestry service four or five months ago.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the slain firefighters.
By Monday afternoon, the Netleton Gulch fire has spread over 26 acres, the Idaho Department of Lands said in a statement. The agency said no withdrawal was ordered and no structure is at risk.
