Chromebooks have long been seen as simple work and study tools, but Google and valves are re -shaping that perception. With the arrival of steam on Chromeos, users now have access to PC gaming directly on their light laptops. The first tested in 2022 through the Chromos Dev Channel, the steam has since been transferred to the beta channel, opening the door for more equipment and a smooth experience.
Steam support expands already available gaming options on Chromebook, which was previously focused on Android Title and Cloud Services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce Now. Update means that the owners of Chromebook can now play popular PC games without relying on streaming platforms.

The beta version of the steam supports AMD Ryzen 5000 C-Series and Intel 12th-generated laptops operated by core processor. Google has set minimum requirements on Core i3 or Ryzen 3 processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, although it recommends at least I5 or Ryzen 5 with 16GB RAM for better performance. Currently, 35 Chromebook models are officially supported, including Acer Chromebook 514, Asus Chromebook CX9, HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook, Dell 5430 Chrombook, and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook 16.

If you own one of these models, it is straight to install steam. Here’s how you can set it:
1. Switch to beta channel:
- Open Chromebook Settings and Find “Channel”.
- Select beta and download the update.
- Restart your device after the installation is over.
2. Enable steam support:
- In your browser, type chrome: // flags.
- #Search for Borelis-Saksham and switch to enable it.
3. Install steam:
- Open Chromeos Launcher and search for steam.
- Select the app, follow the setup instructions, and sign in with your account.
After installation, users can detect the growing library of the games. Titles like Portal 2, Dota 2, The Vichar 3: Wild Hunt, Stardy Valley and Scirim Special Edition are already available. The chromos runs the Linux version of the game where possible, while other protons use, the compatibility tools of the valve are also found on the steam deck.
