New Delhi: Congress and Shashi Tharoor have been connected for 16 long years. But late, Thiruvananthapuram MPs are bringing more cheers for rival BJP than their own party Congress. And what is more, Tharoor is pushing boundaries with every new “statement”.In the last 6 months, there are many examples when Tharoor’s important comment has become a fodder for the BJP to attack the Congress. Whenever Tharoor speaks – Congress makes ducks for cover while the BJP cites its views for the Grand Old Party School. From lessons in nationalism to global diplomacy now, the pattern is from January this year. Also Read: Shashi Tharoor triggers another Congress-BJP slugfestAll this began with the surprise of Tharoor “Praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his foreign policies. Pulwama Terror Attack and Government Operation Sindoor – saw Tharoor making several comments, which was on variance with the official stand taken by the Congress. When the party’s president Mallikrajun Kharge went away, perhaps the shame, then the thiruvamas took away in the throat, the thiruvams took place in the throat. Decided to respond with secret positions targeting the Congress chief. Now, the latest flashpoint between Tharoor and Congress has reached the doors of the Gandhi family. Important observation on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi on the emergency goals of Thiruvananthapuram MP. For all in the Congress, except Gandhis, it is a “no-go” region. But it has stopped Tharoor from not speaking his mind – which is probably now a perfect rather than exception.
In an article published in the Malayalam Daily ‘Deepika’ on Thursday, Tharoor termed the emergency “a dark chapter” in India’s history and recalled the notorious acts of Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi, including forced sterilization campaign and ruthless demolition of slums in New Delhi. He also said that today’s India is not India of 1975.“The excesses of that period caused deep and permanent harm to countless individuals. Between the affected communities, it overtaken the fear and mistrust. After the Emergency, in the first free election held in March 1977, people clearly responded – Indira Gandhi and his party out of power by a big margin,” Congress MP wrote in the article. Also Read: Tharoor praised the Modi government’s vaccine diplomacy; Congress had questioned exports citing ‘deficiency’ in the country.“Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi led the forced sterilization campaigns, which became a notorious example of this. In poor rural areas, violence and force were used to meet arbitrary goals. In cities like New Delhi, slums were mercilessly demolished and cleaned. Thousands of people were made homeless. Thiruvananthapuram MP said, “His welfare was not taken into consideration.Tharoor wrote that the silenceting of dissatisfaction, exposing fundamental rights such as collecting freedom, freedom of writing and speaking independently, and bang for constitutional laws left a permanent mark on Indian politics.Obviously, these ideas echo what the Congress rivals have said about the Emergency. Slight surprise, the BJP was once again to target Congress and Gandhis as a weapon to use Tharoor’s ideas. This is what BJP national spokesperson RP Singh praised the Thiruvananthapuram MP and said: “Whatever Shashi Tharoor has written is absolutely correct. We should take a lesson from the Emergency. During that time, the media was suppressed, the judiciary was intoxicated, and people were not freedom to express their views. This totalitarian impulse is still present in the Congress – remember how Rahul Gandhi once publicly tore the ordinances, and Sonia Gandhi still practices the backcrow. Tharoor’s article reminds how far we have come. Today, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people enjoy complete freedom and India is moving forward. ,There are many examples in the last 6 months when the BJP has used Tharoor’s comments to beat the Congress, especially Gandhis. The Congress initially tried to warn Tharoor to speak against the party line, but eventually tightened its stand with Kharge with swipes in his MP to put “Modi First” instead of “India First”. Congress leaders are unequal to their attacks on Tharoor – branding him “Super BJP spokesperson”.As expected, Tharoor’s emergency attack on the party gave a sharp reply to the Congress. Interestingly, there was also an element of continuity in this counter -attack.Congress leader Manikam Tagore, who is a party MP from Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu and the party’s whip in the Lok Sabha has posted on X, “When a colleague starts repeating the word BJP lines for the word, you start to be surprised – does the bird become a parrot? The use of Tagore of “Birds” analogy was a reference to attack Tharoor. Last month, when Kharge took a jib in Tharoor and said that the Congress believes in the “country first” mantra, but for some, it is “Modi First and Country later”, Thiruvananthapuram MP posted a cryptic post out on X with a bird’s image and a caption: “Don’t allow to fly. The wings are yours. And the sky is not anyone … “A day later, Tagore responded to this Tahrur excavation at the party and said: “Don’t ask permission to fly. Birds do not need approval to get up … But even today a free bird is always preyed.Tagore further said in his post, “Independence is not independent, especially when hunters wore patriotism as wings,” Tagore said in his post. To run his point home, he shared a chart with a list of birds known as “Hunters of the Sky”.There is no doubt that Tharoor and Congress are separating. Emergency articles indicate that perhaps they have reached a point without a return.
