NewNow you can hear Fox News article!
I read a Geeky article that I think you will get amazing too.
Google quietly used its Android operating system to convert billions of phones into a network that detect the biggest earthquake in human history.
Your Android phone can also warn you about the earthquake, even before it starts. It is made in the right. You can do the same with your iPhone.
Foldable phones are impressive technical miracles but make serious compromises
We are giving a new iPhone 16 Pro ($ 999 price). No purchase is required. Now enter to win.
Iphones do not come with underlying earthquake warnings, but there are apps that you can use, such as Myshake, which sends them from the official network. (J Pat Carter/Getty Images)
how it works
Earthquakes start with sharp, subtle P-wavesThey are early rumbles. Most people do not feel at all. But the accelerometer of your phone (yes, the same sensor that knows that when you change your phone sideways), you can find out those waves.
When enough Android phones understand the same speed in the same region, Google’s system sends initial alert to those who are going to be strong, slow hit. S-wavesThey are those that cause damage.
This warns you of 15 to 60 seconds. There is not much time, but enough to move away from the windows, stop the duck under a desk or the climb of that ladder. When the ground starts rolling, second seconds.

It’s not just theoretical
According to a study in ScienceMore than 11,000 actual earthquakes were caught between 2021 and 2024, an Android-based earthquake detection network.
It covers 98 countries and removes about 18 million alerts in a month.
In some cases, people had a minute notice before the shaking started. And false alarm? Only three total in confirmed incidents of over 1,300. Try to achieve those obstacles from your weather app. This is incredible for a free feature in your phone.
Mass scam
Even if you do not live on San Andreas Fault, make sure the setting is in a position when you visit the area where you need it:
- open Settings, Tap Safety and emergency,
- Tap Earthquake alertMake sure it is current.
- Tap Test alert How does it feel to preview.
Got a wearer OS Smartwatch? This will also resonate your wrist, even if your phone is in another room.
Despite whatever smartphone you use, there are ways to use your device, which are to detect earthquakes before they occur. (Istock)
What about iPhones?
Apple has not enrolled in Quake University (yet). Although iPhones also have accelerometer, Apple does not use them to detect earthquakes. If you are on the team iPhone, use free Myshake To get alert from the official seismic network.
