New Delhi: A landslide hit the Chandigarh-Manali highway near Manali in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.This comes when Himachal Pradesh is roaming under heavy rains and flash floods.In a video shared by the news agency PTI, a large part of the mountain was seen falling down.Meanwhile, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started immediate restoration work on the Kiratpur-Pandoh-Kullu-Manali section of National Highway 21 after damaging severe floods, cloudbers, and flash floods, damaged the main stretch, which cuts the road connectivity for Manali’s tourist city.According to a press release issued by NHAI’s Regional Office in Shimla on Friday, NHAI President Santosh Kumar Yadav held a review meeting with senior headquarters officials and field engineers to assess the loss limit and plan immediate restoration measures.The release stated that ten places on the Kullu-Manali section were “completely washed” and five more, disrupting the main highway link, caused partial damage due to “Dhar rains and floods”.The Meteorological Department of India has issued a warning for overdose rainfall and potential cloudburst over the next 48 hours, which has increased concerns about further landslides, flash floods and road interruptions in mountainous districts including Kullu, Mandi and Kinnur.In the last one week, severe weather has created widespread disruption in transport, electricity and water supply in the state, affecting both local residents and tourists. NHAI stated that it is “actively working to ensure active quick recovery and reduce further effects on travel and commerce in these weak areas.”
