The heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh, according to the State Disaster Management Authority, caused mass damage to the infrastructure and disrupted essential services across the state.
Himachal Pradesh SDMA said 625 roads including three national highways (NH-03, NH-154, NH-305) are blocked. The power supply has been excluded from service with 1,533 power distribution transformers, while 168 water supply schemes are interrupted by Monday morning.
The SDMA said that since June 20, the death of the cumulative monsoon in the state has climbed to 303. Of these, 155 deaths were related to rain, due to landslides, flash floods and other weather-trigger incidents, while 148 were deadly in road accidents during the rainy season.
The worst hit districts in case of road closure include Mandi (319 roads), Kullu (101), and Chamba (82). The closure of the National Highway NH-03 and NH-154 Mandi was reported, while the NH-305 was blocked in Kullu.
Power outages have been the most serious in Solan district, with 446 transformer disruptions, followed by Chamba (409) and Kullu (160). Disruption of water supply in Chamba and Mandi (each) and Shimla (32 schemes) was also important.
Officials said that the flow of ongoing landslides and debris obstructs the work of complex, heavy rainfall. Many internal roads and remote villages are cut, forcing authorities to press state machinery and local resources in service for approval and relief operation.
The SDMA has urged the residents, especially in weak mountainous regions, to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, continue to continue in many districts.
