An electrical substation issues that led to a fire, resulting in the closing of the Heathro Airport was first detected seven years ago, but not decided, found in a report.
The National Energy System Operator (NESO) said that the moisture entered into the electrical components in the North Hyde Substation caused the explosion on the site that supplies the UK’s largest airport with electricity.
As a result of the power cut, Heathro closed the next day, causing thousands of canceled flights and trapped passengers.
Neso had earlier said that Power Outage affected 66,919 domestic and commercial customers including Heathro Airport. About 270,000 trips were affected.
Its report stated that the fire “most likely causes a short circuit due to entering the bush in moisture. The possibility of electricity then” Ared “(due to the spark) that ignites the oil together with the wind and heat, resulting in the fire.”
Bushing is a mechanical device that is used to anger energy between two electrical parts.
In response to the report, Heathro Airport stated that “combination of old regulation, insufficient security mechanisms, and the failure of the National Grid to maintain its infrastructure” due to which this “terrible power outage” occurred.
