The Delhi High Court has once again pulled the Delhi government and the Center late in any decision on regularization of military farms in South Delhi.
During a hearing on Wednesday, a bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela noticed that the authorities were not taking any final decision on the issue and just “deer passing”, which eventually “stays in court”.
The bench said, “The basic question remains that in consultation with the state government, what the central government is doing to regularize these colonies.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the court asked why the authorities did not bring a simple law to reduce the problems of the residents.
“The first and last thing we want to know is what you are doing about these colonies? We may not be more clear. They are hanging fire without being able to lay brick for repair and still you are continuing the way you live for the last 10-15 years,” the bench said.
Delhi HC said, “You are well aware of why they exist, how they exist so far. Nothing from the government will do anything to reduce problems.”
The bench called the Central Housing and Urban Affairs, Delhi Government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi’s Municipal Corporation (MCD) officials to sit together on the fate of their residents, who filed a petition in the High Court.
The Delhi High Court had first wrapped the Delhi NCT government in March for failure to indicate a time -line to regularize the Saink Farm Colony in March.
South Delhi Sainik Farm is an unauthorized colony. The region has been in unauthorized position since the 1980s.
An unauthorized colony in Delhi refers to residential areas that have come up, but on the land which has not been approved for residential use in Delhi’s master plan. Due to this, these colonies often face infrastructure issues.
As reported The Indian ExpressDelhi has about 1,800 unauthorized colonies, 1,731 of which has been slapped to re-develop under the Prime Minister-Foreign-Founded colonies at the Delhi Avas Adhikar Yojana (PM-Uday).
However, military farm with Mahendru Enclave and Anant Ram Dairy was excluded from this list on violation of land use.
