President Donald Trump’s plan to deploy soldiers in Chicago is an abuse of power, the Democratic Governor of the US state of Illinois.
JB Pritzkar said in a statement that there is no emergency that is being sent to the National Guard being sent to Illinois and the US President is “trying to create a crisis”.
Trump has already deployed around 2,000 soldiers at Washington DC, where the local government is also run by opposition Democrats, as he is portraying a crack on crime in American cities.
On Friday, Trump said he would implement the policy in Chicago and New York – two other major Democrats – Consulted Cities.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, replying to Trump’s comments, said in a statement that he did not get any information about the deployment of National Guard in Chicago.
He has said that the city government has “serious concerns” about any deployment of soldiers, the President’s approach has been labeled as “unnatural, unheard and unheard of unheard”.
Johnson stated that “illegal deployment” “can incite tension between residents and law enforcement”, and threatens the progress made by the city to reduce crime.
Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the National Guard personnel to patrol the Washington DC streets, which is as part of the trump administration’s efforts described as a “out of control” crime in the city.
Last week, the Pentagon and the US Army said the soldiers involved in the deployment – who will no longer take around 2,000 numbers – weapons.
While the Trump administration has appreciated the mission, the election shows that it is deeply unpopular with many inhabitants in the radical Democratic Washington.
In a statement, the Pentagon said that the National Guard soldiers will soon “be on mission with their service and training with their missions and training”.
It is not clear that the decision to divide the soldiers means that their mission in Washington is changing.
So far, the soldiers have not participated in law enforcement operations – which have been done by the local police and various federal agencies – and instead have been posted near local sites including National Mall and Union Station, Primary Passenger Rail Transport Hub of the capital.
Washington Mayor Muril Boseer has not yet commented on the decision.
Speaking at the White House Oval Office on Friday, Trump said that Mission has brought “total security” to Washington – and the mission can be expanded to Chicago – A city where the leadership has sometimes found itself on obstacles with the Trump administration.
“DC was a Halhole,” he said on Friday, a day after going to some soldiers deployed on Friday. “But now it’s safe.”
The US media report is expected to raise many people as 1,700 National Guardmen in 19 states in the coming weeks. Among the states expecting a national guard appearance, Texas will have the most soldiers.
Guardmen will allegedly support immigration and customs enforcement (Ice) efforts and will serve as a visible preventive.
Despite declaration of Washington DC Mission to succeed, Trump said that he was considering declaration of national emergency after the 30-day deadline ends.
“If I think we are in a lot of shape here, it’s one thing. But if I don’t, I am just going to say that this is a national emergency,” he said. “If I have a national emergency, I can keep the soldiers here as long as I want.”
Several Republican -led states including South Carolina and West Virginia have also contributed forces to Kracdown.
Additionally, Trump said he would ask the Congress for $ 2BN (£ 1.48BN) to help beautify the city. Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled Congress passed the law, which cut a total of $ 1.1BN in the Washington budget.
In a post on X on Friday morning, Attorney General Palm Bondi said the operation has so far made more than 700 arrests – including 40 on Thursday – and 91 illegal firearms have been seized.
Local authorities have questioned the need for federal intervention in the city, with Mayor Boseer pointing to a “huge reduction in crime” which he claimed that he was “a 30-year-old violent crime low”.
A survey conducted by the Washington Post and Shar School released earlier this week found the deployment among the residents of the city deeply unpopular, stating that about 80% said that they were against the acquisition of the metropolitan police department along with the deployment of federal officers and national guards.
