Carbon dioxide is commonly blamed for climate change, not praising to solve it. But Google plans to flip the script. The company announced a partnership with the Italian firm Energy Dome to help store clean energy by using carbon dioxide in a completely new way.
This cooperation will also deploy long -term energy storage systems in Google’s renewable energy projects worldwide, also known as LDES. This idea is simple yet powerful: store excess energy when air and solar production are high, and leave it when the sky dies dark or air.
Most current batteries can provide only four -hour backup power. This can help in production during short dips, but it fails overnight outage or cloud, during the airless days. Energy Dome provides a better solution.

Why Google chose CO2 battery
Google selected the CO2 battery of Energy Dome as it provides clean, dispatable energy for 24 hours. Unlike lithium-ion systems, which depend on expensive and often hard-to-source materials, this battery off-the-shelf uses mechanical components and simple physics.
Instead of chemically storage of electrical storage, the CO2 battery stores it by compressing carbon dioxide gas into a liquid.
