Earlier in July, the Maharashtra government declared the public Ganeshotsav as “Maharashtra State Festival”.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Cultural Affairs Ashish Sheller in the Legislative Assembly, who said that the tradition of public Ganeshotsav was launched in 1893 by Lokmanya Tilak in Maharashtra.
