A shocking case has come to light from Ganjam district of Odisha, where a nursing home proprietor has been arrested for allegedly delivery without any medical qualification, killing both a mother and her newborn. Police said Mangulu Charan Pradhan (35), a resident of Dengosta, carried out the process inside his nursing home on May 11 with two assistant nurses Dosha (ANM), despite that no registered medical businessmen are present. Inspector Prashant Kumar Patra of Digpahndi Police Station confirmed that Pradhan was arrested from his village after a complaint of Babu Nayak, the husband of the deceased woman, Korakhandi. According to the police, two ANMs accused of participation: Madhusmita Pattanayak and Praodini Gaango were arrested on 19 and 10 August respectively. Investigators said that the nursing home had assured the woman’s family that it was fully equipped for a safe delivery. On this basis, the victim, Rosie Nayak was admitted on 11 May. “After four hours of labor, delivery was conducted by the accused without any qualified doctor.”A police officer told PTI that the newborn was declared dead soon after birth, and Rosie himself died on the way to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
