In many parts of Uttar Pradesh, between the rising water level of water in rivers Ganga and Yamuna, State Fisheries Minister Sanjay Nishad decided to visit an affected area in Lucknow. However, his comment on the water from the Ganges river reached “doors to clean the feet”. The comment was seen as insensitive and attracted the opposition’s IRE on social media.
A video of Nishad’s visit in Kanpur Dehat area of Lucknow went viral quickly. In the video, he is seen surrounded by a group of people, one of which is talking about how deep water reaches inside the house.

The comment quickly started a response from the Uttar Pradesh unit of the Congress, which shared the clip on X and wrote, “The minister himself lives in a posh area of Lucknow; forget the Ganges, does not even flow a drain from its door. Therefore, it means that it should be estimated that the minister will go straight …”? ,
After the video went viral, Nishad allegedly clarified that he commented in a light vein. The minister told the news agency, “I was on a trip to the flood-hit area of Nishad, where while talking to him, I said that people from far away come to take a holy dip in the Ganges to demand salvation and the Ganga ‘My’ was right at his door,” the minister told the news agency. The minister said, “We worship the Nishad rivers, the source and livelihood of our life. So the comment has its reference.”
Apart from the Congress, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Shavendra Bikram Singh also slammed Nishad for his comment. “He is not going about the status of the ground reality and flood affected people. The state government has failed to provide relief to the people and its minister is looking for photo opportunities. At a time when people are losing their homes and livelihood due to floods, such statements show how the ministers were cut off from the reality of the land,” said that the news agency said.
