Andrew “Freddy” Flintoff praised the “love and compassion” of NHS employees who took care of him after his car accident on the top gear test track.
In December 2022, Flintoff faced serious injuries by filming the BBC show top gear in a dunsfold aerodrum in Surrey.
He was taken to St. George Hospital, St. George, Epsom and St. Helier Hospitals Group, in Totting – a major trauma center.
Originally at Lancashire, a former International Cricketer of Preston visited the hospital workers, who took care of them after the accident, which they described as “the lowest I have the least”.
Freddy’s surgeon described his case as one of the most complex he has ever seen.
“I just want to say a massive thanks to all employees of St. George,” Flintoff said.
“I came here perhaps I was the lowest ever, in the need of help and expertise, love, which he showed me was incredible.
“I will always be grateful – absolute superhero.”
Recalling the incident, advisor Oral and Maxilofacial Surgeon Zahrad Haq said: “I was on a call that day and received a phone call from an emergency department advisor.
“I have seen in 20 years in all the cases of trauma, it was the most complex.”
Advisor Trauma and orthopedic surgeon Shamim Umarji said: “It is very beneficial when patients come back and you see them not only as patients, but as people. It is a real privilege.
“It was amazing to see Freddy again and his journey gave the employees a real boost. He spent a lot of time to chat and meant a lot.”
During a documentary about the accident, Flintoff explained how he used partition-second decision making from his cricketing days to try to reduce the effect of the accident.
He said that he was drawn under the car for about 50 meters “face-down on the runway”.
The former England star said he felt that he had died in the accident.
Flintoff disappeared from a public point of view for months after the accident and will leave his home only for medical appointments
Their recovery has been streamful on a documentary, flintoff, Disney+.
