Andrew “Freddy” Flintoff has supported a campaign to help more hospitals to get helipads, calling them “a second chance to give me a second chance” after my car accident on the top gear track.

Supporting the campaign by helicopter emergency landing pads (help) appeal, he said: “As every cricket pitch has a wicket, every hospital requires a helpad.”

He said: “When I was airlifted, the helipad was not just a safe place to land on the roof of the hospital, it was an important step in giving me a second chance because I had immediate access to expert care that helped to save my life.”

Financial assistance for air ambulances is at the discretion of individual NHS trusts.
The help appeal provides grants to NHS trusts to fund the construction of the helipad, which can cover the entire or part of the cost.
