Former MP Tom Hunt has been asked to leave the Conservative Party.
Hunt was an MP for Ipswich from December 2019 to July 2024, when he lost the seat for Labor’s Jack Abbott.
The Conservative Party said he was “expelled from the Conservative Party after a complaint process”, but did not give further details.
Hunt said he was “deeply disappointed” with the decision and “strongly denied the complaint”.
Hunt was a conservative district councilor at the East Cambrishire and worked in the 2019 general election before winning the Ipswich seat from Labor’s Sandy Martin before winning the Ipswich seat.
Since losing to Abbott, Hunt has been actively campaigning against legalizing assisted dyeing and recently writing on 11 July Conservative house About their predictions for the bill.
A spokesperson of the orthodox party said that the complaint related to the complaint, due to which the party asked to leave the Hunt, was “right confidential”.
In a statement, Hunt said: “I am deeply disappointed with this provisional decision.
“I have strongly denied the complaint from the beginning and continued to do so.
“I am currently taking legal advice, so it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this level. This is a confidential process.”
Local conservatives have described their “surprise” at the point of events.
Ian Fisher, Conservative Group Leader of Ian Fisher, Ipswich Boro Council said: “It has come as a complete surprise for us.
“He [Tom Hunt] The county was in semi-niyal contact with the conservatives and they are equally surprised. ,
He said that “there was no prior warning or knowledge about the proceedings”.
