Pre -Delaware village. Mike Castle, a Republican Moderate, who built a popular 50 state quarter program of memorial coins while serving in Congress, has died. He was 86 years old.
The Delaware Republican Party announced that Castle died in Greenville on Thursday, but did not share any other details.

Castle was among the most successful politicians of Delaware, he never lost a race, until the US Senate seat was surprisingly harassed in the primary of 2010, which was held by Democrat Joe Biden before becoming vice -president.
During his 18 years in the Congress, Castle became a leader of the Centrist Republican, earning a reputation as a fiscal conservative and social liberal, who is not afraid of challenging the party line on issues ranging from governmental expenses to environmental protection and abortion.

As the only representative of Delaware at the US House from 1993 to 2011, he supported a pay-e-u-Go policy for both spending and tax deduction. Castle played a role in improving child nutrition programs and establishing the No Child Left Behind Education Reform Program. His signature issue in the Congress was a memorial quarter program with coins honored with every state starting with delaware. He was dubbed as a “coin Congress” by the Coin Grading Service Numismatic Guarantee Company.

The quarters promoted federal revenue as they were taken out of circulation. He also helped establish a similar program honoring American presidents with dollars coins starting in 2007, and “America the Beautiful” quarter program honoring the national parks, monuments and nature areas starting in 2010.
Jean Troon, president of the Delaware GOP, said in a statement on Thursday, “Honorable Michael Castle gave the best embodiment of a firm commitment for public service -moderation, integrity and all delaverians.”

Castle was a state MLA and Lieutenant Governor before becoming a governor in 1985.
Delaware village. Matt Mayor ordered a flag blowing on half staff for next week in honor of Castle.

“During his time as a governor, Mike Castle visited every school in our state, including me, where he spoke to my high school class with the same warmth, humility and commitment to public service, who defined his career,” the mayor said, a democrat.
