Like any Test match, there were many factors in the game.
The pitch definitely favored the bowlers, with Australia’s first innings, tourists were excluded for only 121 in their second innings before the highest total match of 225 matches.
Then there is the quality of the opposition. Australia is the number one rank Test team in the world while the West Indies are in eighth position out of 12.
Tourists who hosted England in the Ashes in this winter won their matches in the three-Test series by 159, 133 and 176 runs respectively.
One of the best fast bowlers of this generation, Mitchell Starc on Monday demolished the top order of the West Indies in Jamaica.
“From anywhere,” Australia captain Pat Cummins said, Starc can “separate a protest and win a game for you.”
The left-armor Stark was also equipped with a pink ball as the third Test was a day-night game. Stark has taken 81 wickets in cricket day and night, far beyond the next best, his Australia team partner Cummins who has 43.
The Pink Ball has similar features of the white ball of one day cricket, some of which believe that it swings more, of course in the correct circumstances. Among the bowlers who took more than 200 wickets in one-day international, only India’s Mohammed Shami (25.8) has a better strike-by-the-go (wicket per 100 balls per wicket) than Starc’s clearly incredible 26.6.
Australia was also helped by some beautiful dirty shots as the batting line-up was disintegrated. Among those who played, opener John Campbell 78 was the highest rank player in the World Test batting rankings. The current top 20 in Australia are four: Steve Smith, Travis Head, Alex Kerry and Usman Khwaja.
“It is easy to assess this series: the bowlers put us in the competition and batting reduced us the time after time,” was Captain Roston Chase’s Frank Assessment.
This is more evidence of the decline of West Indies cricket since the 1970s and 1980s.
Out of the 87 Test series he has played since 2000, West Indies have won only 23, out of which 15 are coming against three weak Test-playing countries in Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.
Three of his five lowest innings totals in the 21st century have been with one more in 1999.
He said, “He claimed a reliable draw in the two-testing series in Australia in 2024, proving that he had the quality of competing with the best on his day. They were also without some of their other established players such as Jason Holder, Kemar Roach and Goodkesh thick.
