According to a new report, Florida’s beaches dominated the list of top 10 American beaches for several hundred years and dominated with shark attacks.
Weather Forecasting Company Tidshart saw data between 1642 via 2024 and saw which beaches had the most shark attacks, 9 of 10 slots with beaches in Florida. New Smirna Beach, Florida, tops the list with 277 shark attacks since 1642.
Ryan Blundel, Founder TidachartSaid that there are many swimmers who are unaware of the danger away from the coast of some Florida beaches, but said that people should not panic.
Blundel said, “The concentration of shark attacks along the coastline of Florida is striking, with New Smirna Beach, especially standing as a global hotspot for shark encounters. Many people are unaware that the shark activity comes, while some beaches raise much more risk than others,” Blundel said. “These figures should not prevent people from enjoying the ocean, but they highlight the importance of being notified and informed about local maritime conditions while swimming or surfing in these areas. Understanding the shark patterns and behavior can help to make safe options about entering the water and when the beaches can be safer options about entering water.”
