Gaza City and its surrounding area are now experiencing famine, an un-supported body of food safety experts has confirmed.
Integrated Food Safety Phase Classification (IPC), which is used by governments and international bodies to identify the level of food insecurity and malnutrition worldwide, has extended its classification to step 5 – highest and most serious.
It states that more than half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing “horrific” conditions, characteristic of “starvation, destruction and death”.
Israeli prohibits the amount of assistance entering Gaza. This denies that there is starvation in Gaza and said that the IPC report was based on Hamas’s lie.
The IPC says this is the most serious decline as it has begun to analyze acute food insecurity and malnutrition in Gaza, and the first time has been officially confirmed in the Middle East.
It predicts that between mid-August and end of September, the famine will be expanded to Dayer al-Bala and Khan Younis.
During this period, about one -third of the population -641,000 people are expected to face frightening conditions in the IPC Phase 5, while the number of people in the IPC Phase 4 will be 1.14 million.
The IPC cannot officially declare famine – which is usually done by governments or the United Nations. But this new classification – which has rarely reached and is very important – can trigger the United Nations to do so.
The IPC report comes when Israel prepares to launch a new military aggressive for the purpose of occupying the city of Gaza.
The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza on 7 October 2023 in response to a Hamas -led attack on Southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and 251 others were taken hostage.
According to the Hamas-Interested Health Ministry of the region, at least 62,122 people have been killed in Gaza since then.
Most of Gaza’s population has also been displaced several times; More than 90% of homes are estimated to be damaged or destroyed; Healthcare, water, hygiene and hygiene system have collapsed.
