A widow said that her husband would “fall” from a council’s decision to remove all flowers from the tombs.
A Parish Council will build its village cemetery in Haydenham, a “lawn only” space, a “lawn only” space, from September this year.
Haydenham Parish Council said that families would have to promote “a uniform and dignified appearance for all tombs” to remove plants and trinkets by the next spring.
74 -year -old Viv thatlethweight said: “My husband loved flowers and had to do the garden. If this step moves himself forward and many others will continue to plant flowers and simply take the grass seeds up.”
A lawn-cavalry policy would mean that the tombs should be placed as flat, grass-covered plots, in which no individual items, flowers or plants are kept in the ground.
The Parish Council stated that there were similar rules to address the “long -term issues” of overgrowth or untouched tombs in neighboring areas such as Willingam and Sutton.
The authority stated that the policy prevents accidental damage to the headstone, due to the use of stims in tight places, and the contractors would be instructed to start withdrawal after winter, when the flowers were not in bloom.
‘Heartache for families’
Leslie, the husband of Mrs. TheSletwaite, died in 2021. He also including his parents, aunt and uncle in five other people in the cemetery.
“I come here every week with my lawnmover in a wheelbro and I cut the Leslie’s plot and his partner’s next door of the tomb, with which he used to go to the football,” he said.
Mandi Amori, 61, leads to three tombs in the cemetery twice a week from the needy.
“This is really an emotional thing, just the idea of not planting any flowers on those graves is disturbed.
“My mother died in 2013 and is always bloating on her grave”, she said.
His partner Darren Miles said no consultation was done.
He said that many plots were “immaculate” and “If it is taken away then there is a lot of heartache for families”.
A spokesperson of the Parish Council said: “Many councils in the entire region, and at the national level, have adopted the same approach to ensure that to maintain their cemeteries safe, equally, accessible and respectfully.”
“We would like to clarify that this change was not done for cost-saving reasons. Haydenham Parish Council remains in a certain ground maintenance contract until 2029, so no financial benefit is associated with this policy shift.”
The council said that the cemetery wanted to ensure that the cemetery was maintained in such a way that “to honor those people to rest”.
