Checking your drink for drugs no longer needs to feel like science experiment. Scientists in South Korea have created a new solution, a temporary tattoo sticker that immediately detects tampering. This simple sticker works rapidly, remains prudent, and provides surprisingly powerful protection.
At first glance, it looks like ordinary skin art. In fact, it acts as a chemical sensor. The sticker detects the GHB (gamma hydroxybutirate), a drug usually used to spike the drink. When a small amount of GHB touches the sticker, the design turns from yellow to red within a second.
This success gives a quick and subtle way to stay safe to anyone in the partyguors, college students and social settings. Best of all, it is easier to use compared to any traditional bandage, swab or test card.

GHB-detection tattoo sticker works
It is easy to use tattoos. Apply stickers on your hand, wrist, or hand before exiting. Later, if you are uncertain about your drink, just dip your finger inside, then touch that drop to the sticker. A color change in red means means that the drink contains GHB. Unlike other tests, which may take several minutes or require privacy to use, this method is a sharp and low-profile, which is perfect for crowded clubs, bar or house parties.

This drug-detecting tattoo sticker works in real-life conditions
The science behind this sticker is impressive. It is made from a flexible material called polydimethylsyloxen (PDMS), and there are gels inside which contains a chemical called BHEI. This is what reacts to GHB and triggers color changes. Researchers tested stickers on drinks like whiskey, beer, vodka, sozu and even coffee. He still worked after coming in contact with water, turning or exposed. The detection range is so sensitive that it can catch less as 0.01 micrograms per milliliter GHB.
What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Even better? If your sticker changes color, the red result appears for 30 days after removing it. This means that you can use it as proof if necessary.
Scientists shared these results in a paper published in the ACS sensor journal.

Kurt’s major takeaways
Spicking drink is a serious issue that is difficult to see, it is difficult to stop, and it is difficult to prove. But this tattoo -like sensor changes. It adds a layer of protection that is quick, micro and science-supported. More versions may come in future to detect other drugs such as ketamine or Rohpnol. But still, this single-sticker solution can help prevent dangerous conditions before it starts.
