Spinner Liam Dawson will play his first Test in eight years after being nominated in the England team to face India at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The Left-Arm Dawson, 35, returns to the replacement of off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who faced a broken finger in a thrilling third-testing win at Lord’s.
Paes bowler Chris Woakes retained his place, holding the challenge of Gas Atkinson.
England is above 2–1 and will win the series if they take the fourth Test in Manchester. He has not won a five-testing series from 2018.
Hampshire’s Dawson will win his fourth Test cap, coming against South Africa in July 2017.
England have played 102 Tests since Dawson last appeared. Only six other players in history have conducted more tests between the cap.
While the Dawson will provide reliable slow left hand, he also promotes the batting of the lower order of England. He owns hundreds of 18 first class and his 35.29 outstrips opener Zak Croly.
Part of the 2019 World Cup winning squad, his international career ended. After a fleeting appearance in white-ball cricket in 2022, it increased to more than three years without another call-up.
At the beginning of this summer, he said that he was “realistic” about his England prospects, only to receive a recall for the T20 series against the West Indies in May.
Now they get their opportunity on the Test side, the partner leaps the left-arm jack leach, which was part of the England squads during the winter and they have a central contract.
“He brings experience and guilty,” Batter Harry Brook told the BBC Sport. “He is very skilled.
“He has been around the block, played hundreds of games and he is a great bloc. He is very competitive and he is a very good player.
“He was very nervous before his return to his T20 and I am sure he will panic this week. I am sure he will take his experience and skills to handle.”
