The Citizens of the Defense Department are voluntarily working by hundreds of people for temporary details with the Department of Homeland Homeland Security (DHS), to secure it, President Donald Trump is joining the efforts to operate on the southern border.
In 48 hours, around 500 volunteers responded to the President’s call of duty, as the assignments became available through usajobs.com. Recruitment agencies include Customs and Border Security (CBP), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and immigration and customs enforcement (ICE).
Civil Personnel Policy Michael A. “This is a national security problem, and our citizens have important skills set to support DHS in their missions,” said the Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for the Kagar. “We are proud that our citizens are already ready to sign up.”
Assignments last up to 180 days, providing skills from intelligence analysis to prevention support.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News Digital that The Initiative shows the “outlook of the entire government” of Trump, including gang members and terrorists to remove national security threats.
A DOD spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “ICE, CBP, Homeland Security Department and Defense Department are embracing President Trump’s entire government’s approach to protect the US people.”
“DOD citizens – who have already undergone rigorous veating and demonstrate their commitment to serve this nation – invited to volunteers for temporary ice assignments to help the US rescue and remove national security threats – including members and terrorists of our country’s gangs and terrorists.”

Citizen employees were informed via email earlier this week, and they can apply via USajobs, after which DHS would coordinate with its respective agencies for final approval. If approved, candidates can be deployed within 96 hours.
All DOD citizens can apply to their current agency in good condition with at least 90 days. The assignments last for six months and currently plays roles through September 30, 2026.
Volunteers will provide logistic and technical assistance including data entry, plan, case processing, linguistics and human resources. While gaining cross-agency experience and professional development, citizens maintain their salaries and benefits during assignments with eligibility for overtime.

“This mission is really important, not only for DHS, not only for DOD, but for the whole country,” Kagar said. Dod Memo released on Friday,
“Any person, any one person, can have a force-male-male-male-maltying effect for those DHS agents, allowing them to focus on what they do, while we can provide technical assistance that they need to focus on the security of our nation on the goal, on the mission and outside every day.”

The program follows Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth June instructions It also opened DHS placements for retired service members through the Skillbridge program. The Dod Skillbridge program allows retired service members to ‘gain work experience in real-world training and work in-demand fields’.
