Liverpool says they are “destroyed” from the “unimaginable disadvantages” of their front diaogo Jota, who have died in a car accident.
26 -year -old Portugal International and his brother Andre Silva died in an accident, which took place in Spanish province of Zamora.
The club said, “Liverpool FC will not be commenting at the moment and requests the confidentiality of Diago and Andre’s family, friends, team-partners and club employees will be respected as they try to come with an unimaginable loss,” the club said.
Jota, who joined Reds from Valves in 2020, won the Premier League in the previous season and also part of the FA Cup and League Double winning squad in 2021-22.
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) stated that Jota was “much more than a wonderful player”.
The FPF said, “Jota was an extraordinary person, honored by all team colleagues and opponents, with an infectious happiness and a reference in the community,” said the FPF.
“We have lost two champions. The passage of Diaogo and Andre Silva represents irreparable disadvantages for Portuguese football, and we will do everything to respect their heritage daily.”
The UEFA announced that a moment of silence would be seen in all women Euro 2025 Games on Thursday and Friday, including Portugal’s tie against Spain.
Portugal Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said: “The news of the death of Dioogo Jota, an athlete that greatly honored Portugal’s name, and his brother is unexpected and tragic.”
