Davita ransomware attack 916,000 patients exposes patient records and data

Healthcare institutions have become a favorite goal for bad actors, roughly because they make it easy for the attackers. In June, researchers discovered a healthcare data breech, which highlighted the personal information of about 8 million patients. All this information was publicly accessible online without any password or certification protocol.

The latest healthcare organization is Davita to be a victim of a violation, which has put about one million people at risk. Denver, Headquarters in Colorado, Davita provides dialysis treatment to about 200,000 patients in the US and 13 other countries.

Kidney dialysis giant Davita says that about 916,000 people were exposed to personal and medical information in the April ransomware attack (through comparison). Violations, which the company revealed in the state filing, compromised names, social security numbers, date of birth, health insurance details, medical records, tax ID number, address and even check images given to the company.

Davita states that the incident disrupted internal operations and mainly influenced her laboratories. In its latest notice to the victims, the company says the cyber attack started from March 24, 2025, and continued until 12 April. It is not confirmed whether the ransom was paid.

The Ransomware Gang Interlock claimed responsibility on 25 April, posted screenshots of alleged theft documents and said it took 1.5TB of Davita’s data. The group lishes the company on its public leakage site, where it pressures the victims to sell or issue stolen files.

Davita is offering free identity restoration services of eligible breech victims through Experian, with the nomination deadline on 28 November. The company has not confirmed how the attackers achieved access to the size of their network or ransom demand.

Cyberguy reached Davita for comment, but no response was found before publication.

Who is behind Davita Breech

The interlock, which first appeared in October 2024, claimed responsibility for the Davita attack and at least 23 other ranges and dozens more that are rejected. Healthcare targets include Texas Digestive Specialist, Catering Health and Nepar Grove Vision Care, all of which reported data violations in 2025.

The Davita incident is the second largest American healthcare ransomware attack from the number of records this year, behind the January violation of Frederick Health. According to comparison, in 2025 alone, there have been 53 confirmed ransomware attacks on American healthcare providers, which compromise more than 3.2 million patients records.

4. Sign up for an identity theft protection service

Davita is offering free identity theft and credit monitoring services to people affected by Breach. But even if you were not a victim of this specific violation, it is smart to save itself.

Identity security services can alert you to suspicious activity, if your identity is stolen and often provides equipment to freeze or lock your credit, help you fix it. This prevents fraudsters from opening new accounts in your name, and you can temporarily pick up freeze if needed.

5. Enable two-factor authentication (2fa)

Adding a second layer of login security like a text message or app-based code through 2fa can make it very difficult for Davita attackers to reach your accounts, even if your password is exposed.

Keep an eye on strange fees or unfamiliar accounts. Set the alert through your bank and review your credit report regularly to catch fraud quickly.
