A major signaling failure in London Waterloo caused severe disintegration throughout the morning, out of use at 14 platforms stations.
The South Western Railway (SWR) has urged passengers not to travel on their services till “next information”, as there were cancellations on all routes, the expected problems of continuing at least 16:00 BST.
Passengers have been told that they cannot claim money from SWR for taxis, but can use their tickets on some other rail or bus services.
The railway operator stated that engineers were trying to restore the use of platforms, but “very few trains capable of going inside and out” and many other train services in the network were “severely interrupted”.
Network Rail said: “When we are expecting to restore some services later on the day, it is still likely to be subject to delay and changes.
“Customers must check back for updates. We are very sorry for disintegration to travel this morning.”
According to National Rail, the incident was reported at around 05:30.
Passengers can use their railway tickets on the routes specified with some train trips on London buses, Falcon buses, stagekococh South and Morbus operators along with some train trips on tubes, crosscounting, southern and great Western Railway.
SWR was nationalized by Labor on Sunday, along with the first operator, a second train company, C2C, brought by the Labor Government in May.
Operator C2C runs services between London Fenchurch Street and South Essex.
