Crystal Palace has lost its appeal against the Demot from the Europea League and will play in the conference league this season.
The verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) means that the location of Nottingham Forest in the Europe League has been confirmed, which has been promoted in place of Palace.
Eagles qualified for the Europe League after winning the FA Cup last season, but was punished by the UEFA to break the multi-club ownership rules.
American businessman John Texter had a 43% stake in the club, until he sold it in July and is the owner of Lyon’s majority, who also qualified for the Europea League.
The UEFA gave the palace to show evidence of multi-club ownership reorganization by 1 March 2025, but the club recalled the time limit.
In July, Palace submitted an appeal to CAS against UEFA – which issued the sentence – as well as Leon and Nottingham Forest.
In the ruling, Cass said:
-
Rules are clear and do not provide flexibility to clubs that non-approval on the evaluation date, as the Palace claimed.
-
Texter had a decisive influence on both clubs at the time of UEFA’s evaluation date.
-
The panel also dismissed the palace’s argument that he received inappropriate treatment compared to Nottingham Forest and Leone.
