New Delhi: According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two -day visit to India.
The meeting scheduled for August 19 admits the importance as it is less than a fortnight before Modi’s planned visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
This will be Modi’s first visit to China since the onset of military face-off on the line of real control (LAC) in April-May 2020. Modi and President Xi Jinping are expected to have a bilateral meeting on the margin of the SCO summit, which was his second since the end of the standoff at lacquer last October.
Soon after reaching New Delhi on Monday afternoon, Wang will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, according to an official program of the Ministry of External Affairs. Wang will meet the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the 24th meeting of special representatives on the boundary issue on Tuesday morning.
Wang will meet Modi at the official residence of the Prime Minister on Tuesday evening. He will leave India on Wednesday morning.
Several reports have suggested that Wang is expected to travel from New Delhi to Kabul for a tripartite meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar and Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mutakki. The meeting was earlier to be held in Islamabad last month, but Mutaki was unable to travel to Pakistan due to travel sanctions related to the United Nations Security Council sanctions.
Reports have also suggested that Wang can travel to Islamabad.
Wang’s visit to India for a meeting of special representatives is part of the efforts to normalize their relations and address the border dispute for a long time after the end of deadlock on Lakh by New Delhi and Beijing. It is also part of Modi’s preparation for the upcoming China’s visit to the SCO summit on 31 August and 1 September.
Two special representatives are expected to discuss confidence and peace measures for peace and peace with the limits of the competition, including re-starting the boundary trade, reviewing the situation on LAC, and addressing the border issue. According to an Indian readout, in his final meeting in December, Dowal and Wang “resolved to inject more vitality in the process”.
India and China are in advanced dialogue on resumption of direct flights and trade through selected border positions, and India has “further speed” on the restrictions imposed by China on fertilizer exports, said people said.
In recent months, India and China resumed the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and in the Tibet region and New Delhi resumed tourist visas for Chinese citizens.
Wang’s visit is also important as it comes at the time of doubling the tariff to 50% on Indian goods in the relationship of President Donald Trump in Indo-US, including a fine of 25% for the purchase of Russian oil.
Defense ministers Rajnath Singh and Jaishankar have held bilateral meetings with their Chinese counterparts, when they went to China to participate in SCO meetings in the last two months.
