Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson on Sunday called President Donald Trump’s plan to send the plan to the National Guard to Chicago as a “flagging violation of our Constitution”.
Johnson wrote on X, “The President will propose the most violation of our constitution in the 21st century.”
Johnson also shared a clip with his presence on MSNBC’s “The Weekend”.
On the show, Johnson said that Chicago has clarified what he needs instead of soldiers.

He said, “We need to invest in people to ensure that we can build safe and inexpensive communities. This is what I have done as Mayor since assuming office,” he said. “It is unfortunate that this President is working overtime to win working families and divide cities across the US in its attempt to win.
“But this is clearly a violation of the Constitution, and we are going to be firm and cautious in our commitment to ensure that our democracy is preserved, and our humanity is safe,” Johnson said.
Trump said on Friday that Chicago Washington would be next for federal intervention after efforts in DC.

He vowed to send soldiers elsewhere to “make it safe”.
“We are going to make our country very safe,” said Trump. “… Chicago is a mess.”
Soon after Trump’s announcement, Johnson stated that Chicago did not receive any formal notice of law enforcement or military deployment and expressed “serious concern” about any illegal action.

Johnson issued a statement on Sunday, stating that he and his team are in communication with counterparts at county and state levels as Chicago prepares for any possible military deployment in the city.
“Governor, Chairman of Cook County Board, and I am in full alignment: Chicago is not calling for a military occupation of our city. We are currently evaluating all their legal options to save the people of Chicago from unconstitutional federal overache,” Johnson said. “No matter what happens, Chicago city will not be a wave. We are Chicago. We will bow down or not, and we will never break.”
The White House suggested that leaders of blue cities like Chicago focus on their own issues instead of criticizing the President to try to make America great.

Chicago, which struggles with poverty and gang, is a crime rate above the national average.
But the 2023 figures depict many Illinois cities – including Chicago Heights, Danville, Pieria, Rockford and Harvey – had much more violent crime rates than Chicago.
