Johnson said at a news conference with other city leaders, “This executive order clearly makes it clear that this President is not going to come to our police department and deput.”
The mayor’s order confirms that the Chicago police officers will continue to implement the state and local laws, but will not work on patrol, arrest, immigration enforcement or other law enforcement work with the National Guard or federal agents.
The mayor of Chicago called Trump’s National Guard Plan ‘most violation of our constitution’
“We will protect our constitution, we will protect our city, and we will protect our people,” he said. “We don’t want to see tanks on our streets. We do not want to see families separately. We do not want the grandmother to be thrown into the back of the van. We do not want to disturb the homeless Chicago or disappear by federal agents.”
