Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level review meeting here on Saturday and directed the officials to convert the plantation campaign into a statewide movement.

The Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement that while launching the logo of ‘Vrisheopan Maha Abhiyan 2025’, Adityanath announced the ambitious target of planting more saplings in a single day than the total population of Uttar Pradesh.
“The campaign, ‘a paid mother’s name’ themed, represents a collective push to convert the state from Heatwave to Greenway. Between 2017 and 2024, more than 204.92 crore plants have been planted across the state,” Adityanath said.
He said, “According to India’s Forest Survey, the Green cover of Dehradun, the state has increased in three lakh acres between 2017 and 2023, which was possible through massive public participation.”
The Chief Minister also said that every child born during the van festival will get a green gold certificate and will be given a supply gift to their parents.
“This will symbolically connect environmental consciousness to family life. Suppling will be nurtured with the same love and care as a newborn child,” he said, this initiative should act as an emotional core of the campaign and be widely publicized.
Adityanath announced that a total of 35 crore saplings would be planted during the Van Festival, which also crosses the total population of Uttar Pradesh.
Describing it as a major environmental phenomenon, he urged that preparations in this regard should begin immediately, emphasizing the need to spread the message of “saving trees, trees”.
According to officials, the forest department will plant 12.60 crore saplings, while other departments will be responsible for the plant of 22.40 crores.
To ensure coordination, detailed department-wise targets have been set in all departments and nodal officers have been appointed.
To ensure supply, 1,901 Nursery of the Forest Department, 146 Nursery of Horticulture Department, 55 Syriculture Nursery and 484 private nurseries have been raised plants worth 52.43 crore.
This diverse stocks include the suitable species for industrial use, construction, fruit-bearing, fodder and decorative purposes.
The Chief Minister directed that each department implements its action plan with great seriousness to guarantee the success of the campaign.
He said that this initiative is not just a government program, but a step towards achieving a better and healthy future for the people of Uttar Pradesh.
He said, “When a plant and every citizen goes to their care in every house, Uttar Pradesh will not only become the most populous state, but will also emerge as the most green and most environmentally conscious state in the country.”
Adityanath stressed that all schools covered under Project Alkar should have large -scale plantation.
Similarly, Moringa and other shade trees should be planted in all medical colleges and district hospitals, which provide long -term benefits to patients and their families.
He also called for dense plantation in all industrial units to increase the green and healthy nature of industrial environment. Additionally, the priority of trees like neem, pakkad and peepal was emphasized in all destitute cow shelters, highlighting their benefits for the good of cows.
Adityanath also insisted that this year’s campaign should be kept in its origin.
He directed that extensive plantation should be driven with both banks of rivers to improve water quality and increase biodiversity.
Additionally, all the ponds within the catchment areas of the river will be rolled with plantation as well as taken for conservation and rejuvenation efforts.
He encouraged the planting of fruit-bearing trees like mangoes, berries and tamarinds to ensure greenery and nutritional value with special emphasis on planting with individuals.
The Chief Minister directed that a large scale plantation should be done to form a live belt between Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Agra-Lukeno Expressway and Ganga Expressway and to form a vibrant green belt between service lanes and main roads.
He called for coordinated efforts to ensure that all the beneficiaries of the Prime Minister Kisan Saman Nidh Yojana at least one sapping.
Adityanath directed that every village secretary, Krishi Vigyan Center and Public Institute should be integrated into the goals of plantation, making this environmental campaign actually a collective mission.
The Chief Minister emphasized that when plantation is important, the protection and nutrition of the plant should be paid equal attention.
He directed that each installed supply should be ground tag and proper fencing arrangements have been ensured for their safety.
Along with the plantation drive, the public should be encouraged to take responsibility for the care and protection of these plants so that they can grow in full trees, they said.
